Military families plan walk to Baghdad

September 8, 2005

Albany- "Walk to Baghdad" volunteers plan to walk 6,695 miles, that's the distance between Fort Stewart and Baghdad.

Organizers say the event serves as a way to show support and collect money and donations for care packages.

"It costs a lot of money to call back and forth, so phone cards would be great, care packages, they need everything from deodorant to toothpaste, to even movies in their spare time to watch," says Gloria Stephens.

All 38 units of the 48th Brigade are planning a walk this weekend. The one in Albany will be held Saturday at Tift Park from 8 AM to 6 PM. Activities will be provided for children.
