Valdosta - A South Georgia city is providing long term housing options for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The Valdosta Housing Authority has 37 vacant public housing apartments they're opening up to displaced Gulf Coast residents. They can live there for as long as they want for a low income rent.

Three families have already filled out housing applications.

"We're giving priority to public housing residents who were in the affected areas first, then secondly to any other resident who needs housing, we're trying to offer more of a permanent housing situation for people coming into the area," said Mark Stalvey, Housing Authority Director.

Evacuees who are interested in moving into one of the apartments should stop by the Housing Authority office at 610 East Ann Street.
