Thomasville, Georgia-- The Thomas County government is preparing to send back-up to areas ravaged by Hurricane Katrina.

During a meeting at the justice center, EMA director, Chris Jones, said local emergency workers and public works personnel have been put on standby. If needed, they can be sent to Louisiana or Mississippi on short notice.

Shelters may have to be setup in Thomas County to house evacuees displaced from hotels by travelers with reservations. In a worst-case scenario, officials say they would help organize transportation to Albany or Valdosta.
