Adventure Parks offer free admission to hurricane victims

September 2, 2005
From Adventure Parks

Valdosta, Ga.–Adventure Parks Group, LLC has announced that effective immediately, both Wild Adventures Theme Park in Valdosta, Ga. and Cypress Gardens Adventure Park in Winter Haven, Fla. will offer free park admission to victims of Hurricane Katrina through the end of September.  More immediate efforts are being conducted with local agencies this weekend to raise financial aid for the relief campaign.

“This is a terrible tragedy of tremendous proportions,” said Kent Buescher, President/CEO.  “More than a million people have had their lives turned absolutely upside down and are now taking shelter in the regions surrounding both parks.  Aside from helping in the relief effort, Wild Adventures and Cypress Gardens offer a break from the grim reality surrounding these folks right now.  We’ve opened our gates to bring just a little sunshine to their lives.”

Free admission will be available through the Will Call windows at either park by showing a valid ID from the storm-ridden areas.  Various agencies working with hurricane victims have also been notified of the offer and will work with park officials to identify those who would enjoy a day at the parks.

In other relief efforts, both Cypress Gardens and Wild Adventures are working with their respective American Red Cross chapters to hold a fund-drive during their Labor Day concerts.  Hank Williams, Jr. is scheduled to appear at Wild Adventures Sunday, while Cypress Gardens hosts Dwight Yoakam on the same day.  Tables will be set up in the concert areas with Red Cross volunteers taking monetary donations. Checks written for hurricane relief must be made out to the American Red Cross and then designated in the memo section as “Katrina.”

The Greater Lowndes County United Way is also stepping into the breach by partnering with Wild Adventures over the weekend to raise money.  Volunteers will work at the park, with wages earned going to the United Way to assist those agencies providing help to stricken Gulf residents.
