Lake Blackshear- Many of the state's 325,000 boaters will take to the water this Labor Day weekend.

According to statistics, an alcohol-impaired boat operator is ten times more likely to be killed in a boating accident. Though the number of BUI arrests has dropped dramatically, law enforcers remind both new and experienced boaters not to get complacent.

"Any time that people start to get complacent with what they're doing and they're getting real comfortable with what they're doing a lot of times it's just carelessness that causes the incident," says Sgt. Wade Law.

Officials also remind boaters to remember to wear life jackets, not to speed and remember to travel at idle speed if you're within 100 feet of any other person or vessel in the water.
