Albany - Albany State quarterback Hosea Harris has been named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's offensive player of the week.
The senior from Chesapeake, Virginia accounted for more than 220 yards of total offense in the Golden Rams 24-23 season opening win at Miles College on Saturday.
Harris, who made his first collegiate start in three years, ran for a touchdown and threw for another score.
With a lineup featuring 18 new starters, the Golden Rams are very pleased to open the season by beating a tough conference opponent on the road.
But Harris and the Rams know they have a lot of work to do this week before heading to play defending NCAA Division II national champion Valdosta State.
Hosea Harris said "We see a lot of things we can improve on. That is just what we are going to do this week is improve on what we messed up on last week and try to prepare for Valdosta."
Albany State linebacker Eric Crosby, who returned an interception for a touchdown, is the SIAC's newcomer of the week.
The Golden Rams play at Valdosta State this Saturday night at seven o'clock.
