Valdosta - South Georgia firefighters are helping fight a debilitating disease.

The Valdosta Fire Department has partnered with the Muscular Dystrophy Association to raise money for disease research and therapeutic programs.

Firefighters will be collecting money at both Super Wal-Mart and Winn Dixie locations this weekend. They hope to raise $10,000 to help fight muscular dystrophy. "The M.D.A. helps pay for everything from clinic visits to summer camp and everything the Valdosta Fire Department raises this weekend will help fund certain activities and events such as those," said Leslie Cowart, M.D.A. Director.

Firefighters will be collecting money on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
