Tax increase proposed

August 24, 2005

Thomasville- Thomasville's school board wants to increase property taxes despite a plan to spend less this year.

The system's budget has tentatively been decreased by about $500,000. But school officials want the millage rate increased by 1.4 mills. They say taxes on a $100,000 home would cost about $56 more.

Officials add that they understand the increase's impact on citizens, but that it's necessary to maintain the quality of education.
