Albany - To the victors go the spoils, and on Thursday the national champ Darton College golf team picked up some pretty nice hardware.
The members of the 2005 Cavalier squad were presented their rings for winning the national junior college division two championship back in May.
It is the first national team title for Darton in any sport and the Cavalier golf team dedicating the championship to former athletic director Nancy Abraham who retired last fall.
The Darton golf team rewrote the national junior college record book with their win in the national tournament.
Their overall team score broke the old record by 21 shots and the Cavaliers had six players earn all-American honors.
And the players say these rings will always remind them of what they accomplished.
Jason Flowers who now plays at Valdosta State said "It's something to look at. It's something you can keep the rest of your life." It's gonna take a little more time, just over the years we can think back, 'wow, we won the national championship."
Sophomore Ryan Parker said "I think of this team, and all the friendships I've made, and all the great times we've had, and it's just been a great season, and hopefully we can do it again next year." "I'd like to have one for each hand, that would be nice."
The Cavaliers start their fall schedule September 12th at the Georgia Southwestern Hurricane Invitational.
