Ex Ashburn cop, deputy arrested in East Georgia

August 18, 2005

Garden City -- A suspect in an unsolved Turner County triple homicide is arrested for rape near Savannah.

Garden City police called in the SWAT team to arrest 31-year-old Jason Walker Sunday afternoon. Police say he assaulted and raped his girlfriend and held her against her will at his house.

Walker is now charged with domestic battery, false imprisonment, and rape, and is in the Chatham County jail.

Walker is also a "person of interest" in a March, 2002 triple homicide in Turner County.  He is a former Ashburn policeman and Turner County Sheriff's deputy.

Walker's former girlfriend Melissa Wideman, who was pregnant, and her parents, Tommy Joe and Deborah, were murdered in their home. The house was then set on fire.

Tommy Joe Wideman was the Turner County's tax assessor. No one has ever been arrested in the case.

Today Sheriff Randy Kendrick said the case is still active, and Walker is still, what he called, a person of interest.
