Nashville-- Joe Harvey, whose family founded Harvey's Supermarkets, worked for the grocery chain for 57 years.

He could frequently be seen in television ads for Harvey's, which is based in Nashville, Georgia.

Last year, Mercer University awarded Joe Harvey an honorary Doctor of Commerce degree for his outstanding leadership in the grocery industry and dedicated service to his community.

A native of Nashville, Harvey served two terms on the Board of Nashville Elementary School during the 1960s and served as chairman of the board of Epworth by the Sea, a Christian conference and retreat center.

At the time of his death, Joe Harvey and his wife lived on Sea Island.
