Tifton- New congressional lines have moved nearly ten South Georgia counties into the third district. It's represented by congressman Jim Marshall.
Wednesday, he toured Tift Regional Medical Center getting to know the hospital staff and finding out what he could do to help improve healthcare in rural areas.
"In rural areas we're particularly dependent on Medicare and Medicaid to cover the cost of healthcare, and as we cut those programs and that's what's planned at the federal and state level at the moment, it's fine to focus on waste, fraud, and abuse, but we don't want to cut muscle," says Marshall.
This is Marshall's second trip to the hospital. He says he also plans to visit other South Georgia healthcare facilities.
