Valdosta - Valdosta State received national exposure when their football team won the NCAA Division II national championship last year.
Now a Blazer cheerleader has earned a national honor for their program which is also one of the best in the country.
Sophomore Amy Draper has been named national cheerleader of the month by American Cheerleader magazine and her picture will be on the cover of the September/October edition.
American Cheerleader spotted Amy at the national cheerleading competition in Daytona Beach last spring.
She was one of three finalists flown to New York for a photo shoot where the magazine picked Amy the winner.
Amy says her fellow cheerleaders and coach Dante Tennant are all excited about her honor since its brings attention to a cheerleading program that was second in the nation in 2003.
Amy Draper said "They're just really, really excited for me. My coach is really, really excited because it gives a lot of credit to Valdosta State."
Amy Draper is a sophomore from Warner Robins who is majoring in middle grades education. S
he was a member of the VSU's coed cheerleading squad last year.
