Albany-- A traffic light is going up at a dangerous northwest Albany intersection.
There have been 35 wrecks at the intersection of Point North Boulevard and Old Dawson Road in the last five years. Eleven resulted in injuries. Now that Meredyth Drive has been extended to the intersection, traffic is even heavier.
Today, city commissioners tentatively agreed to spend about $45,000 to put up a traffic light at the intersection. "We had 14 accidents and eight injuries just in this last year," said City Engineer Bob Alexander. "Traffic has picked up. It meets the warrants for a traffic light so we need to go ahead and put one up."
During construction, drivers will only be allowed to turn right onto Old Dawson from Point North, other traffic should take alternative routes. It will take about four months to install the traffic signal.
