Ceremony welcomes freshmen

August 16, 2005

Albany-- High school freshmen in the Dougherty County School System are now being separated from the other three grades in what leadership calls the "Freshman Academy."

Ninth graders were welcomed to the academy this morning at Dougherty Comprehensive High School in an induction ceremony. The students heard upperclassmen talk about setting goals for their education, making and maintaining good grades, staying out of trouble, and finding someone with whom they could discuss their problems

All four Dougherty County high schools are implementing the new program, which is designed to make the transition to high school easier for the younger student.
