Lowndes County- An Atlanta man was killed this morning when a semi plowed into the back of his car.

Accident investigators say its a trend they're seeing all too often lately-- tractor trailer drivers following too closely and not giving themselves enough stopping distance.

A crumpled mess is all that's left of the 30-year-old man's Jaguar. We have been asked not to reveal his name at this time, pending notification of relatives.

"A 2000 tractor trailer traveling south hit the rear end of the Jaguar and unfortunately, the driver of the Jaguar suffered fatal injuries," said Cpl. Jeffrey Kidd.

State troopers think the driver of the semi was following too closely when he ran over the back of the man's car, killing him instantly.

Ricky Smith is an accident investigator for the Department of Transportation. He says scenes like this are becoming all too familiar. "Basically the same things, this year we've had several rear end accidents in tractor trailers, just not paying attention, running up on cars too fast and basically running over them," said Smith.

Charges are pending in this fatal wreck.
