Darton baseball completes international recruiting class

August 15, 2005

Albany - Darton head baseball coach Glenn Eames has literally scoured the entire planet looking for talent.

The Cavaliers have found players here in south Georgia, the Caribbean and Japan.

From Puerto Rico, Darton signs pitcher/outfielder Gabriel Fargas who was drafted by the San Diego Padres.

From Japan comes shortstop Sho Kohata and catcher Yamil Cury of the Dominican Republic who is transferring from Three Rivers Community College.

With Justin Hall transferring to Valdosta State, Darton needs catchers and also picks up two good ones in Colquitt County's Chad Smith and former Tift County Blue Devil Luke Gordon who is transferring from Georgia Southern.

Darton also picks up infielder Matt Davis from Tift County and first baseman Jake Summers was an all-star player for the region 1-AAAAA champion Lowndes High Vikings.

Eames believes his 14 player class is his best ever but the proof will come this spring.

Glenn Eames said "I think last year we had a tremendous year and I see no reason why we can't top that this year."

Darton also lost pitcher Brett Butts who after his freshman season with the Cavs has signed to play at Auburn.
