Donalsonville- Just after school got out Monday at Seminole County High School, a teenager collapsed during cross country practice.
Monday night, school officials and law enforcement would not release the student's name.
The 16-year-old boy was running not far from the school just as practice started. A nurse driving down the road saw him collapse and performed CPR. EMS rushed him to Donalsonville Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Seminole County Sheriff Jerry Godby was on the scene and says all activities at the high school came to a halt.
"They had a softball game going and they stopped the softball game with Dougherty County, or some school from Dougherty County," Godby said. "They had football practice and they stopped it too, when they found out he had passed on."
An autopsy will be performed at the GBI crime lab. Grief counselors will be at the school Tuesday morning. A statement released by the principal and superintendent called the student "an outstanding example of all that is good and right in our young people today."
