Albany-- The new downtown hotel will open tomorrow, a few days later than expected.

Hilton Garden Inn and Conference Center was expected to open on Tuesday, but the hotel wasn't completely finished yet. So Hilton inspectors delayed the opening until tomorrow.

Thursday, the staff performed last minutes checks and the chef perfected the menu. About 20 rooms are booked for tomorrow night.

"We wanted to be 100% ready for our guests," said General Manager Todd Cleveland. "We could have open on Tuesday which was our original date, but of course, we set that date back in February. Just being able to hit the week of August 9th is tremendous."

Construction of the $17 million downtown hotel began in May 2004. There are 122 guest rooms, and it has more conference space than anywhere else in Albany.
