Long time worker chosen Red Cross Volunteer of the Year

August 10, 2005

Albany -- South Georgia volunteers with the American Red Cross are honored for helping disaster victims.

Bill Hamby was named the Southwest Georgia Chapter's Disaster Volunteer of the Year. Hamby traveled to aid victims of three Hurricanes and seven natural disasters so far this year, working over two thousand hours.

Hamby volunteers with Red Cross because he believes in helping others. Hamby said "I've been doing this a long time. There are certain things you feel like you should do, and you feel good about it."

Bill Hamby has volunteered with the American Red Cross since 1969, and said he is still ready to go to disaster areas again, whenever he is needed.
