Cordele- The Harvey's Supermarket off of 16th Avenue in Cordele is closed and surrounded with crime scene tape.

Donna Weaver was shopping along the produce aisle Tuesday afternoon around 4 p.m. with two sisters and a 4-year-old grandchild. That's where police say her husband, Willie Weaver, stabbed her to death.

"She walked in, started shopping and walked in right behind her and immediately assaulted her," said Cordele Police Chief Dwayne Orrick.

Police arrived shortly after and caught Weaver in the store. He was released from jail just a few days ago after being arrested July 21st in Cordele for stalking his wife. Authorities say the couple was separated.

"They've been going through a divorce and separation for several months," Orrick said.

Police wouldn't say what kind of knife was used to kill Donna Weaver, where she was stabbed or how many times. Her body will be sent to the state crime lab.

Her church pastor was waiting outside the store after he got word. Reverend Ulysses Morgan, pastor of Power of Deliverance Church, says she was an important member of his congregation.

"It's just awful," Morgan said. "She was one of the greatest, one of the best members I had at the church, so it's a great loss."

Until now, she was private about the domestic violence problem with her husband.

"We kind of speculated that something wasn't really going right at the house," Morgan said.

Problems that led to a brutal death.
