Albany-- Attorneys for both sides made opening statements this morning in the courtroom of Superior Court Judge Willie Lockette, as architect and Dougherty County School Board member David Maschke sues management company Beers-Moody for defamation of character.

Beers-Moody was hired by the Dougherty County School Board to oversee 17 school building projects, and Maschke worked as architect and designer.

Maschke says that Beers-Moody defamed him and harmed his professional reputation after a $3 million project turned into a $6 million cost for the West Town Elementary School expansion and renovation in 1997-1998.

The trial is expected to take about a week.
