Thomasville - Thomas County Central's 4-6 record last year was the Yellow Jackets first losing season since Ed Pilcher's arrival in the Rose City 13 years ago.
And the Yellow Jackets are working hard this summer to make sure it is coach Pilcher's last losing season.
Thomas County Central's season last year started mother nature canceling their first game against arch-rival Thomasville.
That was an omen of bad things to come since the Jackets finished the season with six losses -with three of those losses coming on the final play of the game.
Ed Pilcher said "Really a freakish type year. It really easy could have been an 8-3 or 9-3 type season."
The Yellow Jackets are hoping the ball will bounce their way this year with six starters back on offense and six on defense.
Senior Doug Pilcher is back at quarterback and he has an experienced corps of receivers
. The Jackets though lost both running backs from their veer option but coach Ed Pilcher has plenty of choices for replacements in Chester Hightower, Jabrel Smiley, Adrian Walls and Renendez Gardner.
Pilcher said "They are all battling. They are all getting equal reps and we feel good as far as their depth. We are just waiting to see which ones step forward as number one and number two."
After so many tough losses, Thomas County Central hopes that lady luck will be with them in the ourth quarter this season. But their coach believes luck follows the prepared team.
Pilcher said "We can't rely on good bounces sometimes you have to make some good things happen for us and that is what we are working on."
Thomas County Central opens the season at home against Thomasville... weather permitting.
