Fallen soldier remembered

August 8, 2005

Valdosta - A South Georgia soldier killed in Iraq was remembered Monday.

Family, friends, and fellow soldiers gathered at New Greater Union Ministries Church in Valdosta for a memorial service to honor Sgt. John Thomas.

Thomas died July 24th when a roadside bomb exploded near the humvee in which he was patrolling.

Friends say Thomas was a fearless soldier who died doing what he loved. "He's looking down on us right now and saying, don't cry over me because I was doing what I enjoyed doing," said Specialist Aubrey Perry.

Funeral services for Thomas will be held Tuesday afternoon at the National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
