Americus- A Sumter County deputy drove up on a brawl early Thursday morning that turned out to involve two armed men.
It happened just after 4 a.m. at the Ramada Inn on Highway 19 in Americus. Two armed men were fighting with Leonardo Davinci Bateman. One gun had been stolen from Lee County.
The men were arrested after more deputies were called to the scene.
Mendrell Minnis and Samuel Tyner Junior are both in the Sumter County jail. Their charges include armed robbery, possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during a crime.
Just a few hours earlier, Americus Police officers arrested a man accused of attacking a woman with a knife.
The attack happened in the 100 block of West Peppermint Street just after 12:30 a.m. Thursday. Someone who lives in the neighborhood heard the 32-year-old woman screaming and called police.
Walter Jordan of Americus is in the Sumter County Jail charged with aggravated sodomy, false imprisonment, battery, kidnapping and aggravated assault. The woman had a cut on her hand, but no serious injuries.
