Bank robbery suspect caught

August 5, 2005

Bainbridge-- A two-state manhunt that lasted about 24 hours has ended with the arrest of Doney Mathis.

Two Decatur Deputies in an unmarked pick-up truck found Mathis walking near the Florida State line around 5:30 this morning. He was arrested after a short foot chase, with an unknown amount of the stolen money on him.

Mathis was the last of four suspects officers wanted in connection with the robbery of the Family Bank in Bainbridge Thursday.

Three other, two men and a woman, were taken by lawmen in a traffic stop, but Mathis ran into some woods.

Officers for Georgia and Florida mounted an extensive dragnet for Mathis, using helicopters, and bloodhounds from Mitchell Correctional Institute.

We will have more details on the arrests later today.
