Leesburg-- Former Lee County Sheriff's Captain Donnie Spillers entered a plea of not guilty today, through his attorney, at his formal arraignment.

Spillers was not in the court room at the moment, but his attorney, Patrick Eidson, told us that he was "in the courthouse."

Spillers is charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of 17-year-old Wesley Beaver last year in Lee County. Eidson told WALB News 10 that Spillers was not guilty, and that he maintains his innocence.

Several members of the dead teen's family were present in the Lee County Courthouse for the brief proceeding.

The trial calendar has not been set, but Spillers' trial could happen in October.
