Valdosta - Lightning caused problems with air traffic at a South Georgia airport.
Sometime between 8:00 and 10:00 Thursday night, lightning struck the main runway at the Valdosta Regional Airport and caused a huge break in the asphalt.
One flight wasn't able to land and returned to Atlanta. Friday morning, passengers who were supposed to be on that plane were bussed to the Tallahassee airport.
"This is pretty significant damage," said Airport Director Bob Holliway. "Back in June we have some minor damage from a lightning strike but with this one, we've had to call in a company who does asphalt repairs."
One other runway remained open throughout the night for commercial traffic. The main runway was repaired and reopened Friday afternoon.
