Lee County -- South Georgia farmers are reminded that Monday is the final day to nominate candidates for their Farm Service Agency County Committee Elections.

August First is the deadline to file nomination forms at your county U.S.D.A. Service center. FSA County Committees are local farmers or ranchers, who help make decisions with the U.S.D.A. on agricultural programs their counties offer.

Three to five producers are needed to sit on the committees. F.S.A. Lee County Director Hank Hammond said "They represent our farmers with respect with how our policies and regulations are going to be administered. So it's a very high honor for our farmers, as well as a big responsibility."

Ballots to eligible voters for the county committee elections go out in November, and must be returned by December.

The elected Committee members take office in January, and serve for three years.
