Softball teams ready to play ball

July 25, 2005

Leesburg - Monday is not only the first day of football practice in pads, it also the first day of practice for high school softball teams.

The Lee County Lady Trojans held their first practice late Monday afternoon.

Head coach Lynn Avery is holding tryouts for the first three days this week before settling on a varsity and junior varsity roster.

The Lady Trojans should have another talented team since they did not have one senior on last year's squad that won the Region 1-AAAA championship.

Lee County though failed by one game to reach their goal of making the AAAA eliteeight in Columbus.

That of course is the goal this year for Lee County but while coach Avery expects her team to be better than last season's, so will everyone else in the region.

Lynn Avery said "I just always think that every year everybody gets better. We have played in the summer and in the month of June and we have played in a league and that helped us and of course we have several that have been playing all summer in tournament ball. So, hopefully it will help us in the long run."

The Lady Trojans open the 2005 season at home on August 9th against AAAAA power Lowndes.
