Albany - The bats for the Albany American Legion Post 30 team have awakened at the right time.
One night after scoring 14 runs against defending state champion Macon, Post 30 scores in double digits in a 12-2 win over the same Macon team in the championship game of the South Georgia area tournament.
Post 30 scored four runs in the second and two more in the third to build an early 6-1 lead.
Post 30 added two more on a two out single by Bradley Abell in the sixth.
Post 30 closed it out with three more runs in the eighth.
Bradley Abell doubled in Josh Carswell.
Chad Smith singled home Abell and Smith scored on a double by Brian Lovering that ended the game due to the ten-run mercy rule.
Macon qualified for the title game against Post 30 with an 18-4 win over Leesburg Post 182 earlier on Sunday.
It is Post 30's third area title in the last four years and they will earn a number one seed at next week's state tournament in Douglasville.
Macon, Leesburg and Vienna also advance.
In other local baseball news, Lee County beat Monroe County 8-1 at the Dixie Youth Baseball major league state tournament in Duluth on Sunday.
Lee County plays Columbia County Monday night at 8:00 p.m..
