Albany- The Dougherty County School System will keep paying to be a part of the Small and Disadvantaged Business Consortium.

The board agreed to remain in the consortium after a report showed their spending with minorities in areas like school construction are up to $9.8 million this year. They had considered pulling out of the group when it was brought up by some board members in a committee meeting.

"Nobody in that committee brought us a proposal as to what it would cost us to hire somebody in house and how effective it would be," said board chairman Willie Weaver.

The school board pays $75,000 a year to be a part of the group with the city and the county.
