Water creeps up at Riverfront Park

July 16, 2005

Albany-- Almost a week later and Hurricane Dennis is still leaving his mark here in south Georgia.

The Riverfront Park is living up to it's name. The entire walking path is now covered with enough water to swim in. Lampposts are halfway covered. Under the bridge on the opposite side, the current is flowing at a strong rate.

South Georgians visiting the park are amazed at how high the water has risen over the past week.

"I hope it doesn't get any higher because we were just talking about the trail. We walked on the trail probably about two months ago and he was just saying he can't even see it now," says Tamara Melson.

In March, heavy rains also caused the park to be flooded, but because it is designed to sustain some flooding, no major damage was caused.
