Man arrested for trafficking cocaine

Lowndes County - An Atlanta man is caught trafficking cocaine through South Georgia.

A Lowndes County deputy pulled over 34-year-old Kerry Dion Heard on I-75 for impeding traffic because he was driving 54 miles per hour in a 70-mile-per-hour zone. When he searched the car Heard was driving, he found a cooler with 11 pounds of cocaine inside.

Investigators say he was likely heading to Florida to sell the drugs, and they could make more arrests. "We've also obtained some information about the source so we're working that with D.E.A. and hope that will come to fruition too," said Sheriff Ashley Paulk.

The drugs had a street value of about $600,000.

Heard is in the Lowndes County Jail charged with trafficking cocaine and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime.
