July 13, 2005

Albany- Americans losing jobs when companies move overseas is one of the biggest problems are country is facing.

Albany is one of many cities that depend on manufacturing plants to employee large numbers of people in the community. In recent years, Albany's unemployment rate has been between 4 and a half and 6 percent, some of the lowest rates in the city's history, according to community leaders.

Leaders also say as the global economy tightens, more manufacturing jobs will be attacked.

"There are so many issues out there, but all of them boil down to the bottom line. What folks can provide to their shareholders," said Jeff Sinyard, Dougherty County Commission Chairman.

But it's the everyday worker who suffers. Sinyard says the focus has to be helping workers find training to get jobs in a growing industry.
