Bad news for Albany job market

July 13, 2005

Albany - More than 50 workers are being laid off from Merck and Company. 55 workers will be out of their jobs September 1st.

The pharmaceutical company is streamlining production across the board. The layoffs are linked to the patent expiration of Zocor, a cholesterol lowering medication. Approximately 40 hourly employees and 15 salaried employees will be laid off.

In November of 2003, 60 people were laid off at Merck's Flint River Plant as part of company wide cuts.
