July 12, 2005Ashburn- Joe Burgess was arrested Tuesday morning. Investigators say Burgess allowed a dogfight to take place at the Traffic Light Club, which he owns.
Bond was set at $15,000, which the commissioner posted.
Burgess says he is not guilty, and feels that he is being unfairly targeted for bringing up issues about the Ashburn Police Department's inefficiency.
Investigators say the arrest is part of a dog fighting ring they've been working to break. They have already arrested nearly ten other men in connection with the case.
The charge is a felony, but Burgess will not lose his seat on the commission unless he is indicted by a grand jury.
