Albany- If your children go to school in Dougherty County, then you will need to prove where you live before school starts this year.

The system is trying to ensure students are attending schools they are zoned for. Too often, they find out that students are attending schools out of their zone by lying about where they live.

So the school board voted in a new policy Monday night that will being this school year. Parents will fill out residency forms. If the system finds out later a parent lied, there may be financial penalties and the student will not be able to participate in school activities.

"They'll be required to lay out one year from the time that this is discovered so they will not be able to participate on the football team at the school where they were supposed to be in the first place."

If a parent or student comes forward beforehand, they will not be penalized. Parents should receive the form before the school year begins.
