Hurricane threatens S. Georgia baseball tournaments

July 9, 2005

Albany- Hurricane Dennis caused a two hour rain delay Saturday and could threaten Sunday's eleven and twelve year old Dixie Youth League baseball tournament.

The delay forced the last two teams to finish their games late Saturday night. The tournament resumes Sunday, weather permitting. Organizers say they're concerned about getting the games in. The top two teams will compete in the Dixie League World Series in Atlanta July 16th. Four more games are scheduled.

"We're just going to have to play that one by ear. We're going to just do the best we can. We got four games to get in and we're going to do our best to get all four games in, and if not we'll just have to move them in to later in the week," said Van Buchanan, Tournament Director.

Two tournaments for the 13 and 14 year olds were also postponed Saturday because of rain showers from Dennis.
