New grants will help homeless Georgians

July 8, 2005

Albany-- More than 5-million dollars will help fight homelessness in Georgia.

The Georgia Department of Community Affairs announced that 151 agencies throughout the state will receive money for housing and services to the homeless. Seven Southwest Georgia agencies received about 106-thousand dollars in funds.

Albany will use a 35-thousand dollar grant for a new housing facility on Highland and Davis.

"We'll have nine units once it's completed for housing homeless families and we're excited about that and looking forward to it," says Community Services Specialist Al Smith.

Phase one of the new facility is scheduled to be complete in the next thirty days. Phase two will provide even more housing.
