Albany motels booked with Florida evacuees

July 8, 2005

Albany-- Folks from Florida are already heading to south Georgia to escape Hurricane Dennis.

Evacuees started making reservations earlier this week and now some Albany motels are booked for the weekend. Workers at The Days Inn are hard at work.

"Yes, see me sweating?," says Director of Sales Emma Katigbak. They're preparing for Floridians, fleeing from Hurricane Dennis. "Yes, a lot of reservations," says Katigbak. Rooms are filling up quickly and some motels are already booked solid.

"From tonight until Monday on standby," says Katigbak.

With a full house, the Days Inn has to make sure everything is in place. "We make sure that everything is prepared and cleaned up and we bought a lot of food, breakfast and drinks in case," says Katigbak. They're prepared in case evacuees like Gloria Carter show up needing a place to stay.

"Kind of sad because oh it's beautiful in Florida, the white sand, the beaches," says evacuee Gloria Carter. She was on vacation in Fort Walton Beach when she was told that she should leave. "I was supposed to extend my stay but we had to evacuate so I came back here," says Carter.

Now she feels much safer in Albany. The pending weather has many of us cranky but Gloria is still looking forward to seeing the beach again. "Hopefully," laughs Carter.

She's thankful for a temporary place to stay. "Thank God you know. It's a crazy week anyway, but this is going to be crazier," says Katigbak.

It's a crazy weekend that many hotels are prepared for. All of the rooms at The Days Inn in Albany are booked for this weekend.
