Thomasville-- One of the cornerstones in Thomasville's economic base is hoping to strengthen its foundation.
Flowers Foods has signed a contract to take over Royal Cake Company in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The bakery has filed for bankruptcy, with almost 200 people's jobs in the balance. The acquisition isn't set in stone yet though. The contract still has to be approved by a bankruptcy court.
Flowers is based in Thomasville, and operates 34 bakeries throughout the mid-Atlantic states.
