Albany-- After a much needed week off, the South Georgia Wildcats are back in action this week as they travel to New York to face the Albany Conquest Friday night. The Wildcats will make the long trip north hoping to snap a six game losing streak and hand head coach Donnie Davis his first win with the team.
But Davis says the only way that that will happen is if the Wildcats eliminate the mental mistakes they've been making. That will be the main focus during practice this week as South Georgia has only a few days of work before they leave for Albany early Thursday morning.
Davis says the short week shouldn't be that big of a factor this week since they had all of last week to rest up and get mentally prepared for the final four games of the season.
"The guys I think were able to sit back and analyze the fact that they did play well outside of a couple of mental mistakes so we're back and we're ready to go," Davis said.
"We were kind of nicked up a bit in the secondary and on the line but the week off gave everyone a chance to heal up pretty good," Burkes said.
The Wildcats will have receiver Kevin Beard back in the lineup this week. Beard is coming off an ankle injury. Kick off for Friday night's game is set for 7:30.
