Driver killed in early morning crash

July 5, 2005

Thomasville-- The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a fatal wreck in Thomasville just hours after the fourth of July traffic count ended.

52-year old Michael Hamby was killed around 6:00 Tuesday morning on Newton Road just off 319 north. Troopers say Hamby lost control of his pickup truck on a curve and hit a tree. No one else was involved in the wreck.

18 people died in crashes over the Fourth of July weekend. That's four more than officials had predicted.
