Albany -- Georgia firefighters say they are sure the number of fires and people injured by fireworks will go up this weekend.

Because sparklers are now legal in Georgia, many more people will be using them this holiday weekend. Of course there will also be people who use illegal fireworks.

Firefighters urge you to use caution while you celebrate. Albany Interim Fire Chief James Carswell said "We want everyone to understand they are dangerous if used improperly. And that means you have to have adult supervision at all times."

Sparklers burn at 18-hundred degrees, so keep them away from flammable materials like your clothing.

In 2002, 8,800 people were treated in emergency rooms for fireworks related injuries.
