Coffee County-- A state senator is released from the hospital after being involved in a deadly wreck Monday.

State troopers say heavy rain definitely played a factor as Senator Greg Goggans and three members from his orthodontic office staff were headed east on Georgia Highway 268 just outside of Ambrose around 5:30 Monday afternoon.

They say Goggans' SUV hydroplaned, he lost control, crossed the center lane and stuck an oncoming car driven by 69-year old Harmon Vickers of Savannah. Vickers died at the scene.

Goggans SUV partially overturned and came to rest on its side in a creek. The senator was transported to Coffee Regional Medical Center with visible injuries, but was released Tuesday morning.

The State Patrol said that none of his passengers were transported to the hospital.

A spokesperson for Goggans says he is doing well, but is in shock and heartbroken about what happened.
