Small turnout for tax break vote

Posted June 21, 2005

Bainbridge- Tuesday afternoon, only 32 people had voted in Bainbridge on a tax break for industries.

They voted on what's known as the "Freeport Break." It gives new and existing industries relief on their property and inventory taxes. No money would come out of the taxpayers' pockets. Instead, the city would not receive as much as it currently does from the industries.

The tax break would cost Bainbridge about $15,000 a year. Most cities and counties in Georgia with industries already use the break.
