Americus- An Americus sex offender is back in jail, accused of attacking a woman five weeks after he was released from prison for child molestation.

Fred Revels, 32, is charged with aggravated assault and kidnapping after grabbing a woman walking her dog on South Lee Street Wednesday.

Revels was released from Reidsville State Prison May 11. On Many 12th he attacked a nurse at Sumter County Regional Hospital.

"He was originally charged with simple battery in that case," said Investigator Richard McCorkle, with the Americus Police Department. "We're upgrading that case to aggravated assault with the intent to commit rape after an interview with the suspect, Mr. Revels, at the county jail."

Revels registered as a sex offender in Decatur County, but not in Sumter County.
