Valdosta - Former Thomas University softball coach Thomas Macera is returning to south Georgia.
Macera has been named head softball coach at Valdosta State University.
Macera was an assistant at Valdosta State when he was hired six years ago at Thomas University.
In five years he took a Thomas program that had eight wins before his arrival and led them to the NAIA national title in 2004.
Macera left Thomasville last August for Boca Raton, Florida where in his first season led Lynn University to the NCAA Division II title last month.
But while Macera was coaching in south Florida, his wife and daughter were back at home at Valdosta
And now so is husband and father who is ready to win a national title at his alma mater.
Thomas Macera said "It just makes you work that much harder. I would love to win one here and why not this year. Hit the ground running and God willing everything falls together and get it done now."
Macera replaces Kendra McDaniel who stepped down before the 2005 season to take a job in private business in Pensacola.
