Valdosta - Governor Sonny Perdue helped promote the value of education in South Georgia Wednesday night.

The governor's helicopter landed at Valdosta State University for a visit with students in the Governor's Honors Program. He encouraged them to savor this summer learning experience and share their ideas for Georgia's future with state leaders.

Later, the governor spoke at the 100 Black Men of Valdosta's Black Tie Dinner to raise money for youth scholarships.

"To be here with the 100 Black Men of Valdosta and help them promote education as a way out, as the future of success, is really, really important," said Perdue.

The Governor says promoting education in this area is particularly important to him since his daughter graduated from Valdosta State University.
